Emogean Harpe Obituary

Emogean Maxine (Scott) Harpe, age 91, of Tipton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2020. Maxine was born on February 9, 1928 in Tuckerman, Arkansas to her parents, Arley Ephrum Scott and Allie Mae (Knoles) Scott.

Maxine attended school in Tuckerman, Arkansas. She married Hilry Turner Harpe on November 13, 1948, and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2002. Through the years Maxine had several jobs. She worked at Carnie’s Drug Store, Little Gem's Restaurant, and Pioneer Hybrid. However, the job she loved the most was being a caregiver for her children and homemaker for her family. Maxine was indeed a great mother! She kept her kids in line, and she was strict; yet she was also a loving and attentive mother, very involved with her children. They all have fond memories of their childhood, and will forever miss their mother’s cooking.

As much as Maxine loved being a mother, she loved being a grandmother even more! She was so proud of each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was thankful to be a part of each of their lives.  Anyone that met Maxine would tell you she was a sweetheart. She started each and every morning by reading devotions and writing in her journal. You could often find Maxine reading a good book or sewing quilts. Maxine was no doubt committed to her faith. She was a proud member of the Church of Christ, in Tipton, and loved her church family very much. Maxine will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her!

Those left to carry on Maxine’s legacy of love are her children, Gary Harpe, Melissa (Bill) Grishaw, Timothy Joe Harpe and Ted (Rebecca) Harpe; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Arley and Allie Mae (Knoles) Scott; husband, Hilry Turner Harpe; siblings, Hazel Burnett, Ruby Drumond, William Scott, Robert Scott, Harry Scott and Arley Scott; and grandson, Joseph Alan Kemper.

A funeral service celebrating Maxine’s life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton with Pastor John Ankrum officiating. Burial will follow in Tipton’s Fairview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place prior to the service from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Maxine’s honor to Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home in care of Tipton County Humane Society.  Once an official account is established a check will made out to the Humane Society in Maxine's honor.  This is how the City Council would like to handle the donations at this time.
