Sue Hellen (Greathouse) Book

            Sue (Greathouse) Book, age 92, of Tipton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2018. She was born on February 9, 1926 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the late Fred Greathouse and Mary (Jones) Greathouse.

            On November 7, 1942, Sue married Elmer Sowders. They enjoyed many years together and raised four beautiful children. Sue married Joe Book on June 22, 1994. They enjoyed five years of marriage before Joe passed away in 1999.

            Sue was a lifelong resident of Tipton, and she was very proud of her strong roots to the community. She attended Tipton High School in her youth. Sue went on to enjoy a career with Pioneer Hybrid, in which she stayed until retirement. Sue had many friends and enjoyed her time in Women of the Moose. She was also an active member of Oasis Community Church. Sue loved crafting, quilting, and crocheting. Above all, she loved her family!

            Those left to carry on Sue’s legacy of love are her children, Mary Lee (Ray) Mitchell and Victor (Vicki) Sowders, grandchildren, Terri (Andy) Creasy, Mark (Michael) Mitchell, Jody Mitchell, Jeff (Melinda) Sowders, Ron (Amber) Sowders, Christi Sowders, Larry Joe (Dawn) Sowders II, Wendy Sowders, great grandchildren, Carisa (Eric) Richardson, Cliff (Ashley) Ragan, Ashley M. Sowders, Ashley A. Sowders, Alexis Sowders, Nicholas Sowders, Levi Sowders, Olivia Creasy, Logan Malston, great great grandchildren, Luke Ragan and Lily Ragan, daughter in law, Gloria Sowders, sister, Janice Sullivan, several nieces and nephews, and very dear and helpful friend, Sheron Rode. 

            Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Greathouse, Mary (Jones) Greathouse, and Mattie Greathouse (the woman who raised Sue from a young age, and lovingly took on the role of her mother), brothers, William Greathouse, and Fred Greathouse Jr., sons, Larry Joe Sowders and Donald Gene Sowders, grandson, Todd Sowders, and great granddaughter, Lynndzi Jo Sowders.          

            A funeral service celebrating Sue’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N Main St, in Tipton, with pastor Linda McKiernan-Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, just prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or West Street Christian Church, Tipton, IN.
