Barbara Jean Shields

Barbara “Barb” Jean Shields, age 57, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Barb was born on November 27, 1964, to her parents, Stan and Martha (Mahaney) Shields. 

Barb was a graduate of Tipton High School, class of 1984. Barb worked as a caregiver most of her life for many kiddos in the Tipton area. Perhaps her most rewarding job was being caregiver for her nephews for over 24 years. Barb’s job was simply a reflection of who she was. You would be hard pressed to find someone more caring and compassionate than Barb. 

Barb was strong in her faith and was a long-time member of Rock Prairie Baptist Church. Barb enjoyed spending time with her family, gathering with her friends, and traveling. In fact, she recently traveled to Alaska with friends. Barb also enjoyed random road trips, shopping & sightseeing, and cross-stitching baby quilts. More than anything, Barb was a blessing to everyone she crossed paths with. She was a friend to all and believed in leaving others better than how she found them. Barb will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her!

Those left to carry on Barb’s legacy of love are her father, Stan; brother Gary (Judy) Shields; sister Angie Murray (Jay Smith) nephews, Shawn (children: Natalie & Austin); Ryan (Brandi) (children: Evan, Jamison, Lexi); Andrew and Jacob.

Barb was welcomed into Heaven by her mother Martha and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service celebrating Barb’s life will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton, IN with Pastor Jerry Markins officiating. A visitation for family & friends will take place on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
