Betty Atchley Obituary

Betty Maxine (Delph) Atchley, 88, of Tipton, Indiana passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at Methodist Hospital, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Born on October 26, 1937, in Tipton, Indiana. Betty was the daughter of Ernest Chandler Delph and Cercella Mae “Toots” (Phifer) Delph. She grew up in the community she would call home for her entire life, a place where her roots ran deep and her legacy will remain. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ernest Delph, Jr.

Betty graduated from Tipton High School in 1955 and began her career shortly thereafter at Farmers Loan & Trust Company in Tipton. She faithfully served the community for many years, retiring from Harris Bank (formerly Farmers Loan & Trust Company) in 2002. While working at Farmers Loan & Trust Company, Betty and her mother, “Toots,” pursued a shared dream by attending beauty school together. In 1965, they opened The Magic Mirror Beauty Salon, creating a special chapter of family entrepreneurship and community connection.

On November 4, 1956, Betty married the love of her life, Will Atchley. For 69 years, Betty and Will built a beautiful life together filled with love, adventure, and unwavering devotion to family. They cherished traveling and camping in their motorhome, exploring new places and creating lasting memories along the way. One of their greatest joys was attending and supporting the special events and activities of their grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband, Will Atchley; her daughter, Amy (Atchley) Cole and husband Rex Cole; her granddaughters, Tasha (Cole) DeWitt and husband Wes DeWitt, and Shayna Cole; and her great-granddaughter, Mackenzie DeWitt.

Betty’s hobbies reflected her creative and thoughtful nature. She loved working on stained glass projects, crocheting with patience and care, watching birds from her window, completing puzzles on her computer, researching her family genealogy, and, of course, enjoying a little shopping on QVC. Her hobbies reflected her patience, creativity, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Betty will be remembered for her quiet strength, her dedication to family, and the warmth she shared with those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the generations. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
