Blitz Henderson Obituary

Blitz's family wrote a beautiful tribute to honor her.

Blitz Henderson, age 16, crossed over the rainbow bridge at 4:01am on Friday, December 9th, 2022, in the loving arms of her mom and dad, Casey & Bret Henderson.

Blitz was a beautiful red merle Australian Shepherd, born on November 15th, 2006.  Blitz' mom picked her up on Christmas Eve 2006, and Blitz was by her side from that day forward.

Blitz was lovingly known in her family as "the Queen," and she ruled her mighty kingdom up until her last moments on Earth.  Blitz was always larger than life and made her presence and opinion known wherever she went.  Blitz was an incredible athlete and highly intelligent.  She trained at frisbee, flyball, and dock diving, but her true passion was agility.  Blitz flew around the obstacle courses like a red ball of fire and went home with many blue ribbons during her years of competition.  Blitz loved her nightly Greenie treat, big sticks, water and swimming, hoarding all the toys, bossing everyone around, rolling on the ground, running through the fields, and loving on her humans.
Six years ago, Blitz welcomed her new favorite human into the family, her dad.  He gave her everything she always wanted:  a big house in the country, lots of acres to run, a barn, and, most importantly, sheep!  Blitz lived for the days she got to load up in the truck and go to the farm with her daddy to take care of the sheep.  He always made sure to roll her window down for her so she could smell all the smells and feel the breeze on her face.

Blitz traveled on many adventures with her family, spending time at Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, Crazy Horse Monument, Badlands National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Glacier National Park, Custer State Park, Gateway Arch National Park, Wind Cave National Park, and many other sites along the way.  Other than being at home and on the farm, Blitz' favorite place to spend time was at the family lake cottage on Spider Lake in Traverse City, Michigan.  Blitz never encountered a lake, river, or pond that she didn't try out - even when she wasn't supposed to!

Blitz was her parents' best friend, most loyal companion, fiercest protector, shoulder to cry on, secret keeper, adventure partner, and navigator through life.  Her big heart and personality have left a gaping hole and she is tremendously missed every day by her people and her animal siblings - Blue, Bronx, and Maisey the dogs, Bert, Bond, and Becks the cats, and Perry and Smidge the horses.

Blitz was preceded in death and is going to spend forever with her special cousin dog, Chupi; her human brother, Holt; and two other human siblings.  Her parents are comforted by the thought of those joyful greetings at the gates of Heaven.

There will never be another like our girl, Queen Blitz.
