Charles Edward Merrill

Charles Edward Merrill, age 86, of Tipton, passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor on Thursday, September 15, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on June 11, 1936, in Tipton, Indiana to his parents, Paul & Goldie (Teter) Merrill.  On June 9, 1956, Charles married his true love, Dorothy Ann Williams; they shared 61 years of marriage before she passed away on March 27, 2017.

Charles was a graduate of Tipton High School, class of 1954.  After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his expert sub machine gun skills.  Charles worked as a machinist for Perfect Circle until they closed and went on to work for Navel Avionics until he retired.  He was a member of the American Legion.

In his free time Charles enjoyed camping and golfing.  He often went to flea markets and was always on the lookout for tools.  Charles loved to travel; his favorite place to go to was Florida.  He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was an incredibly loving father and husband.  Charles had a very kind heart and always looked out for others.  He was wise and full of information.  Charles passed his knowledge on to anyone that would listen; he was known to be just a little chatty! 

Those left to carry on Charles legacy of love are his children, Doug (Patty) Merrill, Greg Merrill, Deb Getz; grandchildren, Rachel (Jerry) Schwaller, Rebecca (Ryan) Oswalt, Andrew Merrill, Nick (Mandy) Netherton, Kyle Netherton, Kristi (Jake) Rankin, Corey Merrill, and Shelby Merrill; great grandchildren, Urban Schwaller, Lydia Schwaller, Ryland Oswalt, Lilian Oswalt, Eva Oswalt, Rory Merrill, Luke Netherton, Grayson Netherton, and a precious baby boy coming very soon; brother, Don (Janice) Merrill; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Charles was welcomed into Heaven by his wife, Dorothy Merrill; parents, Paul & Goldie Merrill; infant son, Charles Douglas Merrill; siblings, Marjorie Saxton, Robert Merrill, Martha Nelson, William Merrill, and Myron Merrill.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Charles will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Noon at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton, with Pastor Tim Morrissett officiating. A visitation for family & friends will take place prior to the service from 10:00am – Noon at the funeral home.
