Dorcie Lyke Obituary

Dorcie "Edward" Lyke, age 77, of Windfall, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1944 to his parents, Rev. Dorcie Lyke and Alma (Leach) Lyke.

Ed graduated from Sharpsville High School in the Class of 1962. He then went on to enlist in the United States Navy, and proudly serve his country. Ed endured rigorous training to receive the honor of sailing on the USS Nathan Hale. After Ed returned to civilian life, he began working for General Motors in Kokomo, staying through retirement.

On May 20, 1964, Ed married the love of his life, Barbara (Dailey) Lyke, and the two enjoyed 57 years together. Ed & Barb led by example. Love and respect led the way, everyday! Ed was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was dedicated to his family, and always took time to patiently teach, nurture, and encourage each and everyone of them! Most importantly, he made time to help whenever he was needed. In fact, he usually answered the phone by saying, “What can I do for You?”

Fishing was Ed’s favorite pastime. He and his favorite friend, Keith Milburn frequently participated in weekend tournaments. Some of these tourneys took the two friends to Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky; where they had many opportunities to excel in Trout & Bass fishing. Fishing may have been Ed’s favorite hobby, but he honestly enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family! Ed was one of a kind, and made the world a better place just by being in it! He will be so greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him!

Those left to carry on Ed’s legacy of love are his Wife, Barbara Lyke; Daughter, Lisa (Jimmy) Pore; Granddaughter, Megan (Brock) Phifer; Bonus Granddaughter, Emily Kesterson; Siblings, Jessie Freeman, Arletta Ledford, Bea Freeman, Lue (Don) Davis, Johnny (Alona) Lyke; Brothers In Law, Paul (Pam) Dailey, Jim Dailey, Doug (Roxie) Dailey; as well as many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

Ed was welcomed into Heaven by his Parents, Rev. Dorcie & Alma Lyke,  In Laws, Paul & Lorene Dailey; Sisters, Stella Lyke, Irene Hughes; Brother, Ernie Lyke; and Sister In Law, Valerie Dailey.

A funeral service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 1:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton, with Pastor Steve Branstutter officiating.  Burial will take place immediately following the service in Nevada Cemetery.
