Doug Stearnes Obituary

Douglas “Dougie” Stearnes, age 59, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 26, 2021 at IU Health Tipton while surrounded by his loving family. Dougie was born on April 29, 1962 to his parents Billie Stearnes & Allie (Whitley) Stearnes.

If there ever were an angel here on earth, it was Dougie Stearnes! To know him was to love him! At 59 years old, he still had the innocence of a child. Because of this innocence he was able to see straight to the heart of everyone who crossed his path! Dougie was very affectionate and loving. He loved hugging people…he often hugged complete strangers! It’s safe to say that Dougie simply loved people! He did have a favorite person, that he spent his entire life looking up to… that was his big brother, Bill. Dougie & Bill had a special bond that was admired by many. Bill and Brenda's commitment to caring for Dougie through the years was equally admired!

Dougie very much enjoyed watching football, and was a huge Colts fan! He also enjoyed WWF and could name all the wrestlers; even had actions figures of most of them. Dougie also had a big appreciation for classic Disney. He was truly one of a kind. Dougie was unknowingly funny, and brought so much joy to his family! They each have “Dougie” stories that will give them strength for years to come! Whether it is Dougie’s never ending cassette tapes that always needed wound back up, or him using Cheetos to train the backyard chickens; Dougie has left his sweet, and humorous imprint of love on each of his family members’ hearts. Those who had the privilege of knowing Dougie are truly blessed!

Those left to carry on Dougie’s legacy of love are his brothers, Robert (Janet) King, Bill (Brenda) Stearnes; immediate family, Michael (Julia) Garst, Michelle Cottingham, Kristi Stearnes (Brian Strebin); and many more nephews, nieces, family & friends.

Dougie was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Billie & Allie (Whitley) Stearnes, and sister, Debbie Stearnes Griggs.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from noon to 2:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton, IN.
