Douglas Carter Obituary

Douglas MacArthur Carter Sr., age 79, of Kokomo, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Howard Community Regional Health Hospital in Kokomo with his loving family by his side. Doug was born in Windfall, Indiana on July 8, 1942, to his parents, Tyree & Ruemonta (Morris) Carter. On November 25, 1994, Doug married the love of his life, Ana Maria Perales; they shared 27 wonderful years of marriage.

Doug graduated from Windfall High School, class of 1961. After high school he proudly joined the United States Air Force. Once out of the service, he attended Ivy Tech College while working in Skilled Trades at General Motors in Kokomo where he later retired in 1993. He was a lifelong member of the Windfall Pentecostal Church.

Doug was a true outdoorsman! He enjoyed mushroom hunting and searching for arrowheads. He would work for hours on end cutting wood. He loved to watch westerns. He also loved to play sports with his children including basketball, football, and even kick the can. He loved going to garage sales and flea markets, his favorite being Strawtown Flea Market in Noblesville.

He was always very social and enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards or go to the casino. He was often the life of the party and was a big jokester. Family meant the world to him, past and present…he studied his family’s past through genealogy.

Those left to carry on Doug’s legacy of love are his wife, Ana Maria; his four children from his first marriage, Rhonda (Paul) Cannon, Douglas Carter Jr., Randall (Rebecca) Carter, Michelle Hite, Laura Vega, Joel Vega, Jose Romo; grandchildren, Brandon (Shana) Cannon, William (Christin) Cannon, Eric Cannon, Joshua (Ashley) Carter, Kye Carter, Matthew Carter, Shelby Miller, Shelby Hite, Weston Miller, Summerlyn Carter, Ty Carter, Rhett Carter; nine great grandchildren; sister, Vina Sizemore; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Tyree & Ruemonta Carter; son, John Carter; siblings, Bonnie Grandstaff, Lewella Fox, Richard Carter, and Marvin Crabtree.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from Noon to 2:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home located at 314 N. Main Street in Tipton, IN.
