Elaine Eastman Obituary

Elaine Ann (Woodruff) Eastman, age 86, of Arcadia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at home with her loving family by her side.  She was born on October 30, 1936, in Tipton to her parents, Hillard Roscoe & Vivian Geneva (Hobbs) Woodruff.  Elaine married Charles G. Eastman on June 1, 1977; the two enjoyed 29 years together before Charles passed away on June 25, 2006.

Elaine was a graduate of Tipton High School, class of 1954.  After high school, she worked at Ft. Harrison’s Defense Finance Accounting Services.  After having her children, she then worked for the United States Postal Service where she was a rural route carrier for many years, then as the postal clerk in Arcadia before she retired.   She then started her retirement career as the librarian of the Arcadia Library until they consolidated that location into the new Hamilton North Public Library in Cicero.  She retired from the library at the age of 84 in December of 2019.  Elaine was an active member of Phi Beta Si and the Eastern Star.

Elaine was incredibly driven and motivated; to say she was a hard worker would have been an understatement.  She was also strong-willed which served her well in life.  Elaine had a very generous heart; she was kind and loving with a wry sense of humor.  She spread her love and kindness in many ways, including supporting the community through her volunteer work at a women’s crisis center in Noblesville, and at the Tipton Elementary School.

Elaine was well known for her classic style and trendy fashion!  If you had a question about what to wear for a certain event, she was your go-to gal!  She also had an eye for home décor and helped her family decorate their homes.  She knew each of their styles and has left pieces of herself in all of their homes.

Those left to carry on Elaine’s legacy of love are her children, Scott (Cheri) Conaway, Kim (Chuck) Rood, Jill (Bruce) Eastman; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Frederick J. (Chick) Woodruff; sister-in-law, Debbie Eastman, and Dorothy (Wolchansky) Eastman; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elaine was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Hillard & Vivian Woodruff; husband, Charles Eastman, sister, Linda Conaway; and granddaughter, Stephanie Rood.

A graveside service celebrating Elaine’s life will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery located at 418 Fairview Drive in Tipton, with Pastor Mark Knapp officiating.
