Elbert Moss Obituary

Elbert Jay Moss, age 86, of Tipton, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Saxony Hospital in Fishers. Jay was born in Celina, Tennessee on September 12, 1935 to his parents, Buford & Hattie (Strong) Moss.  On November 29, 1952 Jay married the love of his life, Neva Nell Curtis.  They shared 68 years of marriage, a lifetime of love, and raised three wonderful children together. What a true testament of love!

Jay attended Arcot School in Celina, Tennessee.  Jay was a farmer for many years.  He was a fork truck driver for most of his career working at Red Gold and Biddles. For more than 20 years, he also worked as the afternoon janitor at the Tipton County Courthouse; it was a job he looked forward to everyday because it allowed him to do what he loved most and that was to be social!

Jay was a happy go lucky kind of guy.  He loved nothing more than talking to others; if they were a stranger, they wouldn’t be for long.  Jay lived his life to the fullest making the most of every moment.  You could say he was living his dream life!

To say Jay loved country music is an understatement.  He not only enjoyed listening to it, but he also loved to play it as well.  He played guitar and was the lead singer in his band, Jay and the Jaycees.  Jay recorded an album in Nashville, Tennessee.  One side was called “Hold Me in Your Arms” and the other side was called “A Brand New Record in Nashville”.  He was very proud of the music he played and would play almost every weekend for years.  Another weekend activity he always looked forward to was mowing lawns.  He couldn’t wait until the weekend so he could mow.

Those left to carry on Jay’s legacy of love is his wife, Neva; daughters, Linda Spivey and Glenda (Scott) Muncie; brothers, Junior Moss, Willard Moss, Willie Turner Moss, Louie Moss; grandchildren, Raelyn Moss, Terry Wood, Elizabeth Balser, Cheyenne Brumbaugh, Alexia Muncie, Brielle Muncie, Jaxsen Jay Muncie; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Buford & Hattie Moss; son, Larry Wayne Moss; brothers, Ray Moss, Dillard Moss, Lee Moss; sister, Iva Perrin; and granddaughter, Diana Ramos.

A funeral service celebrating Jay’s life will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021, at 1:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N.
