Herman Lorenz Obituary

Herman Ellis Lorenz, age 80, of Elwood passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 while surrounded by his loving family. Herman was born in Kokomo, Indiana on April 8, 1943 to his parents, Ralph Lorenz and Naomi Georganna (Kendall) Lorenz. Herman married Lucille (Mullins) Lorenz on August 10, 1976, and the two enjoyed 47 years together.

Herman graduated from Eastern High School in the class of 1961. He then went on to earn his certification in pipefitting. Through the years, Herman worked for American Standard, Gerber and Firestone. Herman was a hard worker and always provided well for his family.

When he wasn’t working you may have found him fishing, reading, playing violin, or riding his Cushman scooter. Herman was part of the Vintage Motorbike Club in Portland, IN for 30 years. Herman was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and his faith was important to him.

More than anything, Herman’s best moments were spent with his dear family. He was kind hearted, sweet, loved talking to people, and was always very generous with his time. Herman was also incredibly compassionate; this was articulated well in his love and care for animals. They broke the mold with Herman, and he will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him!

Those left to carry on Herman’s legacy of love are his wife, Lucy Lorenz; son, Steve (Lisa) Lorenz; stepchildren, Terry (Sheryl) Jones, Brenda (Jerry) Sallee, Velma Jones; brother, Toney (Angie) Lorenz; daughter-in-law, Debbie Lorenz; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Herman was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Ralph & Naomi Georganna Lorenz; son, Gregory Lorenz; and granddaughter, Brooke Ann Lorenz.

A funeral service celebrating Herman’s life will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N.
