Jack Loyd Shults, age 90, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was born at home on July 9, 1933 in Caryville, Tennessee to his parents, William Loyd Shults and Nettie (Phillips) Shults. Jack married the love of his life, Nancy Gean (Litton) Shults in January of 1957. Even though the marriage ended, the two remained friends through the years and were always there for one another.
Jack attended high school in Jacksboro, Tennessee. He enlisted in the Army, and proudly served his country during the Korean War. When Jack returned to civilian life, he worked for Chrysler in Kokomo. After many dedicated years, he finally retired in 1987.
In Jack’s spare time you may have found him gardening, fishing, or tinkering in his garage. He was a gifted mechanic and rebuilt many cars through the years, (something he very much enjoyed doing with his son). Jack had a 1980 Cadillac that he absolutely adored. More than anything, Jack loved his family and appreciated every moment he had with them – especially his grandkids and great grandkids!! He was a great cook, and loved family get togethers. Jack's faith was important to him, and he definitely led by example. He attended Rock Prairie Baptist Church in Tipton; and had been baptized at Jerome Church in Greentown. Jack will be missed beyond measure, and forever remembered for his kind heart and giving spirit!
Those left to carry on Jack’s legacy of love are his children, Sharon (Shorty) Smith, Jeff (Linda) Shults, Amy Shults (Rick Hayes); adopted daughter, Tonia Smith; grandchildren, Ashly (Brad) McCracken, Andrew (Emily) Smith, Dalton Shults, Holly (Brian) Hartman, Kasey Hayes, Kensey Morrison (Devon Marks), Sarah (Derrick) Pearcy; great grandchildren, Eli & Silas McCracken, Taylor & Gunner Smith, Makylee & Blake Hartman, Jackson & Lillian Tillery, Haydon & Addilynn Marks; nieces & nephews, Jim (Patty) Kaylor, Joy (Mel) Warrick, Ron (Dawn) Kaylor, Helen (Mark) Mills, Jerry Shults; many nieces & nephews and extended family in Tennessee; as well as beloved English mastiff, Charlie.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William & Nettie Shults; friend & companion, Nancy Shults; brothers, Paul (Helen) Shults, Bill (Leanna) Shults, Lee (Rosella) Shults; sisters, Betty Nicks, Mildred (Bill) Kaylor; baby sisters, Helen & Barbara Shults; nephew, Roger Shults; and son-in-law, Kent Morrison.
A funeral service celebrating Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton with Pastor Aaron Hogue officiating. Visitation for family & friends will take place prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. The American Legion Post 46 will perform military honors along with the United States Army to start the service.
