James “Jim” Willard Brown Jr., age 77, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Albany, Kentucky on August 29, 1946 to his parents, Willard Brown and Opal (Vincent) Brown. Jim married the love of his life, Elma (Elmore) Brown on August 14, 1972 and the two were fortunate enough to share nearly 52 years of marriage.
Jim graduated from Western High School in the Class of 1965. He then went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. He served as an airplane repair operator from 1968 through 1971 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to civilian life, Jim worked as a mechanic and welder for Indiana Welders Union; helping to build Marble Hill and Caterpillar Corporations. Jim ended up retiring from Chrysler Casting Plant in Kokomo after nearly 30 years, where he worked as a millwright.
Jim was a member of the 32° Scottish Rite Masons, Russiaville Lodge #82, and past Patron of Russiaville OES Chapter #130. Jim was a dedicated family man. He was the true patriarch of the family; an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a private man, with a quiet demeanor. He enjoyed solitude and always enjoyed being outdoors. He was very protective of his loved ones and treasured his time with them. One of Jim’s favorite things to do was take his wife out to eat. Although he was a man sometimes of few words, his love always spoke loudly and the example he set will live on through generations. Jim will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him!
Those left to carry on Jim’s legacy of love are his wife, Elma Brown; children, Shellie Harvey (Jeff), April Fugle (Tom), Kim Brown; grandchildren, Nichele Spitz (Zach), Cameron Fugle, Noah Brown, Joshua Brown; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Imajean Memmer (Steve), Willdean Christopher; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Opal Brown; brother, David Brown; and grandson, David Fugle.
Out of respect for Jim’s wishes, there are no formal services planned. Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Brown family in their time of need. Please feel free to leave an online condolence or share a special memory of Jim with his family on his tribute wall.
