Janice E. (Massengill) Cornwell

​Janice E. (Massengill) Cornwell, age 74, of Tipton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 5, 2019. Janice was born on February 27, 1945 in Talbott, TN to her parents, Eber Massengill and Ruth (Galyon) Massengill. 

​Janice attended high school in Jefferson City, TN. She married Billy Cornwell on August 17, 1960, and shortly after the two of them began their life together in Tipton. Janice worked for Pioneer Hybrid as a lab technician for many years. She also served two terms as Tipton County’s deputy assessor. Beginning in 1983, the Lord called Billy to become the head pastor at Community Fellowship Church. Janice worked right alongside him and was proud to be a pastor’s wife for over 35 years! 

Through the years Janice kept herself busy taking care of her family. She was completely devoted to her husband, family and her church family. She was an amazing mom, grandma, and help mate to her husband. Janice had the honor of leading the women’s ministry “Ladies Circle” at church. She loved being a part of all aspects of ministry and never missed an opportunity to encourage someone. Janice was able to help many people grow in their walk with Christ. She had so many good qualities. Janice was outgoing, welcoming, and very loving. She had a gift for making others feel special and important. She enjoyed life. She was often the life of the party. She loved to smile and laugh. She was one of those people that you would look forward to simply being around. Janice will be so greatly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to carry on Janice’s legacy of love are her husband, Billy Cornwell; sons, David (Ginny) Cornwell and Darrin Cornwell; grandchildren, Derek (Tiffany) Cornwell and Dustin Cornwell; great-grandchild, Evie Cornwell; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. 

​Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Eber & Ruth (Gaylor) Massengill; sisters, Nadine Gass and Evelyn Delawder; and brother, Dwight Massengill. 

​A funeral service celebrating Janice’s life will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 2:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton with Pastor David Cornwell & Pastor Gary Holliday officiating. Burial will follow in Tipton’s Fairview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place prior to the service from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at the funeral home.
