Obituary

Kenneth Charles Whisman, age 74, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 5, 1949 to his parents, Hiram Whisman & Norma (Gilland) Whisman. On November 8, 1969 Ken married the love of his life, Eliza (Collins) Whisman, and the two were incredibly blessed to spend more than 53 years with one another.

Ken attended school in Tipton. He was drafted in the United States Army, and proudly served in Vietnam, working as a diesel mechanic. Through the years Ken worked for TRW Casting and Firestone, from which he retired in 2000. Even though Ken retired he never stopped working. He was a car fanatic, with an impeccable skill-set. With his talent and drive, he restored many tractors and muscle cars throughout his life; rebuilding most of them from the ground up…a 1967 Mustang Convertible, a couple Model A’s, and a 1940 Dodge Business Coupe; to name a few! Ken also had amazing capabilities for building. He built 6 family homes; each from the ground up. There truly wasn't anything this man couldn't do!

Ken was strong-willed, intentional, and lived every day with purpose. He was also fun loving, generous, and completely devoted to his family. His grandkids lovingly called him "Pappy" and are so grateful to have had him as their babysitter and best friend. He never missed a football game or activity that his grandkids were involved in.  Ken was an amazing father and showed his children the importance of a strong work ethic, and the value of unconditional love many times over. It goes without saying, Ken's favorite person in the world was his beautiful wife. He loved traveling with her and appreciated every moment they had together. Family gatherings, as well as "Hot Dog Thursday's" for his buddies will never be the same... It's safe to say that Ken was a bright light and fearless leader in the lives of many, and he will be missed beyond measure!

Those left to carry on Ken’s legacy of love are his wife, Liz Whisman; children, Chanelle (Chad) Cherry, Chad Whisman; grandchildren, Alexis Cherry, Audrey Cherry, Chandler Cherry, Waylon Whisman, Brayden Whisman; siblings, Tim (Paula) Whisman, Steve (Carol) Whisman, brother-in-law, Sam Simons; sister-in-law, Penny Whisman; several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as beloved dog, Coco.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ronnie Whisman, Donnie Whisman, and Angela Simons.

A visitation celebrating Ken’s life and legacy will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Moose Lodge, located at 900 W. Jefferson St. in Tipton.
