Kimberly Summers Obituary

Kimberly Ann Summers, age 59, entered into the glory of the Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2021 with her loving husband and children by her side at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  Kim was born in Tipton on January 28, 1962, to her parents, Ralph Scharff and Mary Jo (Jodi) Cox.  On September 12, 1980, Kim married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Greg Summers.  They married in Tipton, sharing 41 years together.  They welcomed daughter Nicole on September 29, 1981, and son Justin on March 31, 1983.

Kim was a graduate of Tipton High School, class of 1980. Through the years she was a faithful employee to many organizations in the community; she helped start the Little Angels Day Care at Heartland Church, worked as a teller and loan clerk at Steel Parts Federal Credit Union, and was an account representative at Pioneer Hi-Bred.  For the past twenty years Kim has taken care of the day-to-day organization of the family business, Photos by Greg.

The light of Kim’s life was her family.  Along with being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, she took great pride in being a loving wife, mother, and Grammy to her eight grandchildren.  She was profoundly influenced by the love and support of her grandmother, Margaret Scharff, faithfully fulfilling her legacy to the next generations.  Kim took the role of caregiver and protector very seriously and was  willing to ensure that her children and grandchildren’s needs were met before her own.  She was happiest when sitting on the sidelines or in the audience supporting her grandchildren in their sports, theater, dance, or other endeavors.  She instilled in them a love for the Lord and daily prayer, something they will carry throughout their lives.

When not with her family, Kim’s favorite place in the world was the beach, where she could lay in the sun, wade in the waves, and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of God’s creation.  Kim and Greg took many vacations to the beach with their family or with special friends Greg and Sheila Stephens, with whom they enjoyed a special vacation to Hawai’i in 2009.  In her free time, she could often be found laying out by her pool, reading, or watching her favorite team, IU Basketball.  Those who knew Kim spoke of her infectious laugh, radiating smile, and emanating love for her family.

Left to carry on Kim’s legacy of love are her husband, Greg Summers; children, Nicole Eller and Justin (Emily) Summers; grandchildren, Kendra Eller, Chloe Eller, Joshua Summers, Zachariah Summers, Jonathan Summers, Aveah Summers, Ephraim Eller, Matthew Summers; father, Ralph Scharff; sister, Debbie Williams; father-in-law, Bernie Summers; brothers-in-law, Mark (Patti) Summers and family, Jeff (Donna) Summers and family; the extended Scharff family; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Among those who welcomed Kim into Heaven were her mother, Jodi Plake; stepfather, Bill Plake; stepmother, Susanne Scharff; brother, Jeff Scharff; mother-in-law, Becky Summers; and aunt, Ruth Pheanis.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Rock Prairie Baptist Church located at 421 Ash St. in Tipton, IN.
