Larry Fakes Obituary

Larry Joe Fakes, age 83, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 with his family by his side. Larry was born on November 25, 1939 to his parents, John Fakes & Tina (Bankston) Fakes. Larry married the love of his life, Judith Ann (Leininger) Fakes on August 11, 1962. The two shared over 60 years of marriage and enjoyed raising 3 beautiful daughters together.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of Tipton High School. He worked as a semi-driver the majority of his adult life; priding himself on taking care of his family. Larry & Judy had a strong marriage; founded on love, devotion and their faith in the Lord. Later in their life, many fond memories were made as the two spent their winters in Florida together.  Larry also enjoyed fishing and watching sports. IU and Notre Dame were the teams he most enjoyed rooting for. Larry and his wife hosted many foreign exchange students through the years. They always considered this an honor to invest in young kids and mentor them. Of course, Larry’s favorite kids were his own; he never missed an activity his grandkids were involved in. He proudly took on the role of “biggest cheerleader” for each of them. They all lovingly referred to him as “Pops” and are beyond grateful for the gift he was in each of their lives.  Larry’s sense of humor is perhaps what he will be remembered for most. He had the kindest heart, and was always able to lighten the mood, and make others laugh. He loved the sunshine, and ironically, that’s exactly what he was to so many!

Those left to carry on Larry’s legacy of love are his loving wife, Judy (Leininger) Fakes; daughters, Mary Fakes, Beth Ritter, Lori (Rick) Tilley; grandchildren, Nicholas (Whitney) Huff, Steven (Lauren) Huff, Kyle (Farren) Tilley, Konner (Brooklin) Tilley; great grandchildren, Harley, Piper & Skyler Huff, Lawson & Burton Huff, Max & May Tilley; special niece, Karon McCoy; brother in law, William Leininger; sister in law, Rita Leininger; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, John & Tina Fakes; In laws, Glenn & Mary Leininger; sister & brother-in-law, Nadine (Phil) Backes; brother, Melvin Fakes; an infant brother; sister-in-law, Joyce Leininger; and brother-in-law, Keith Leininger.
