Linda Martin Obituary

Linda L. Martin, age 83, of Tipton, passed away at 6:33 PM on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at IU Tipton Hospital.  Linda was born in Atlanta, Indiana on June 9, 1938, to Reverend Allen Rigney and Dorothy (Cox) Rigney.  She attended grade schools in Atlanta, Anderson, Orestes, and Alexandria High School.  She married Philip R. Martin on February 14, 1958, and they spent 58 years together.

Linda worked at the Orestes Canning Factory, a restaurant in Elwood, Sigler Nursing Home in Arcadia, and retired from Tipton County Memorial Hospital on June 30, 2000, after 30 years of service.

Linda was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose Tipton Chapter #616, the Moose Lodge #1590, and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She also volunteered at Miller’s Merry Manor.  She loved to crochet, read, and work Variety Crossword puzzles.

Linda was the type of person that you never had to guess how she felt about you or any situation.  She said what was on her mind and it didn’t matter who she said it to; if she thought it, she would say it!  She was a straight shooter that never gave a second thought to sugar coating her words.  She always said, “I married a sailor and I talk like one too!”.  One of her favorite sayings was ESAD!  She would save that for occasions where she had to watch what she said but those that knew her, knew exactly what she meant.  Those that spent any amount of time with her knew what a comedian she was and her laugh…it was truly infectious!  She would laugh until she was in tears and everyone else around her was too!  She was a friend to all and will be so dearly missed.

Those left to carry on Linda’s legacy of love are her three children, Richard L. Martin, Terri A. Sansare, Debbie L. Frazier and husband Jerry; five grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Philip R. Martin; three sisters, Vivian Groover, Annie Gray, Christina Ellis; one brother, Bud Rigney; one grandson, and one great grandson.

A visitation will be held at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home located at 314 N. Main Street in Tipton on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM.  A Women of the Moose Lodge service will take place at 1:00PM.
