Marvin Stevens Obituary

Marvin F. “Bud” Stevens, 84, of Tipton, was freed from the bonds of dementia when God called his name and number to go with Him. He was born on November 12, 1940 to Vern R. & Crystal Hendricks Stevens in rural Tipton County. Marvin’s father died unexpectedly before he turned 3, leaving his mother to raise him and his sister Karen, who was born a couple months after their father's passing. Their mother remarried later in life and they gained a sister, Nancy.

Marvin attended Tipton High School and graduated in the class of 1959. He enlisted in the Air Force in the fall of 1959. After basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he spent the next three years at K.I, Sawyer Air Base in Marquette, Michigan, where he became an avid lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. Marvin’s working career after the Air Force was spent mainly at the now defunct Kolux Sign Corp. in Kokomo, IN., and he retired from the now defunct Steel Parts Corp. in Tipton, IN. Marvin was a long time member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton; he and his wife, Annie cleaned the church for about 10 years.

Marvin married Annie (Gray) Stevens on March 2, 1968 at the old Rock Prairie Church when it was located north of Tipton. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Marvin and Annie lived their entire married life in Tipton.

Marvin leaves behind his loving wife, Annie Stevens; 3 beautiful daughters (who were his pride and joy), Lisa Furner, Zepherhills, FL, Kellie (Bob) Claxton, Kokomo, IN and Julie Stevens, Tipton, IN. 6 grandchildren, Max (Kari) Furner, Stanford, KY, Arik Furner, Crab Orchard, KY, Quin (Jill) Furner, Lutz, FL, Kyle Dick (Amy Wood), Tipton, IN, Kacey (Payton) Dick, Ward, AK, Lindsey (Tanner) Maxey, Tipton, IN; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Everlee Furner, Keller and Theo Dick, Vali, Enli and Isla Maxey, Gabi and Sebastian Furner, and bonus great granddaughters, Kyrie and Jala; sister, Nancy Napier; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marvin is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Vern Stevens, Crystal Stevens Springer; step father, Rev. Lee Springer; and sister, Karen Klein Peters.

Marvin was known for his love of air shows; he went to many through the years. He also loved visiting the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. He could tell you about almost any plane that flew. His favorite sports teams were the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Braves, and IU Basketball. He passed his love for the Green Bay Packers on to a couple of his grandsons. Really, any team that had one of Marvin’s kids or grandkids on the roster was also his favorite team.

Marvin overcame several battles with cancer during his life. He was remarkable in many ways. His faith, family and friends were very important to him. Marvin will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Stevens family would like to extend tremendous thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice, and The Waters Aviary staff. Your patience and compassion will never be forgotten.
