Mary Grimes Obituary

Mary Louise Grimes, beloved sister, aunt, caregiver, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at The Waters of Tipton at the age of 85. Born on May 14, 1940, in Tipton, Indiana, to Charles Grimes Sr. and Rosamary (Bates) Grimes, Mary Lou’s life was rooted in the community she loved so dearly. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1961, beginning a life marked by kindness, creativity, and service to others.

Mary Lou devoted many years of her life to caring for those around her. She worked for the Indiana School for the Blind, later served as a CNA at the Children’s Home in Arcadia, and most cherished of all, she cared for her nieces and nephews, each of whom was shaped by her love, laughter, and steady presence. Being a caregiver wasn’t just her work; it was her calling.

A free spirit with a warm and witty sense of humor, Mary Lou brought light to every room she entered. She was a breast cancer survivor whose strength inspired all who knew her. She loved flowers and gardening, puzzles, and word searches, and she enjoyed bowling in two local leagues. Her artistic talent was remarkable, Mary Lou was an exceptional illustrator, well known in the community for creating beautifully decorated calendars for businesses and residents. Many sought her out, asking her to create special drawings, and she generously shared her gifts with anyone who asked.

Above all, Mary Lou lived a life devoted to helping others. Caring for people brought her the greatest joy, and she extended compassion to everyone she met. Her gentle spirit, creativity, and unwavering kindness touched countless lives.

Those left to carry on Mary Lou’s legacy of love are her siblings, Dan (Margaret) Grimes, Harold (Linda) Grimes, and Bill (Minnie) Grimes; uncles John (Glenda) Grimes, and Bill Grimes; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins who adored her.

Mary Lou was welcomed into Heaven by her parents; her brother Don Grimes, brother Charlie "Jr." Grimes and his wife Beverly, brother Jack Moody, sister Connie Tolle and her husband Bill; and her sister-in-law Sharon Grimes; and her special aunt Mary Alice Crail and her husband Lee.

Mary Lou shaped the world quietly but profoundly, with her hands, her art, and her heart. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
