Melody Butler Obituary

Melody Ann (Epperly) Butler, age 62, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 with her loving family by her side. She was born on November 6, 1960 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to her parents, William Epperly and Francis (Soles) Epperly. Mel married Michael Kent Brown in 1978. They had two beautiful children before Michael passed away in 1988. On May 9, 2015 Mel married Daniel Butler. However, the two shared 22 years together prior to their marriage. They were thankful for every moment they shared and memories made.

Mel attended Tri Central High School. She worked for Meijer in Carmel for around 15 years but spent the majority of her adult life working in home health care for patients with special needs. It goes without saying, that Mel was an extremely caring woman. She was kind, and very giving of her time. She effortlessly could brighten your day with her encouraging words and contagious smile. At times Mel could be stern, but she always had good intentions and often motivated those around her to give their best effort.

Mel was silly, and fun to be with. She had an amazing laugh and could pull humor out of any situation. She was a content soul! As long as she had her family, and a cup of strong, black coffee, she was happy! Being “Nana” was the greatest gift, and Mel cherished every moment spent with her grandkids. She loved the sunshine, and all activities outdoors; camping, skiing, and canoeing were among her favorites. Mel was one of a kind, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her!

Those left to carry on Mel’s legacy of love are her husband, Dan Butler; children, Michael Kent Brown Jr. (Amanda Ringer), Emily Ann Brown (David Menssen), Marshall Drew (Chikako) Butler, Casandra Danielle (Mark) Whetstine, Brady Joe (Sarah) Butler; grandchildren, Miracle Brown, Maison Menssen, Macy, Ada, Ruby & Kade Whetstine, and Kanna Butler; siblings, Sherry Moore (Bill Donley), Bill Epperly, Clint Epperly, Phillip Epperly, Tracie (John) Harris; aunt, Joyce (Marvin) Short; uncle, Al "Butch" (Janet) Epperly; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mel was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, William & Francis Epperly; first husband, Michael Kent Brown; sister, Lori Epperly; and brother, Thomas Epperly.

A funeral service celebrating Mel’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. In Tipton, with Pastor Joe Brock officiating.
