"Mike" Jerry Michael Ogden

Jerry Michael “Mike” Ogden, age 77, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at his home surround by those he cherished most.  Mike was born in Tipton on January 23, 1944 to his parents, Dennis and Mary (Sharp) Ogden.  On February 3, 1967 Mike married his soul mate and love of his life, Ava Marie Mooney.  They shared 54 years of marriage and a lifetime of love. 

Mike attended Jackson Central High School.  Mike was a proud member of the United States Army, serving an 18-month tour in Vietnam. When he completed his military service, Mike worked for Delco Remy where he retired after 30 years. 

Mike had a zest for life and found time was best spent outdoors!  He was lucky enough to find his true soul mate in Ava!  They enjoyed so many things together whether it be camping, fishing, or hunting of any kind.  They just truly enjoyed each other’s company.  Mike also loved to go antique hunting and he was an avid collector of Tipton advertisement memorabilia. 

To know Mike was to love him!  He was as ornery as the day is long, never passing up an opportunity to startle someone.  He was a joker that loved to make others laugh.  He was really a big kid at heart and because of that, children were naturally drawn to him.  He was known around town as Uncle Mike to so many!

Those left to carry on Mike’s legacy of love is his wife, Ava; brother, Mort Ogden of Tipton; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was welcomed into Heaven by his father, Dennis Ogden; mother, Mary Tragesser; stepfather, Paul Tragesser; siblings, John Ogden, Lucille Ogden, Walter Ogden, Jane Stokes, Phillip Ogden, Clyde Ogden; and stepbrother David Tragesser.

 A funeral service celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 2:00pm at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton, IN with Pastor David Sluka officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Fairview Cemetery where military honors will also take place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mike’s honor to The Boys and Girls Club of Tipton County located at 341 W. Jefferson St. #B, Tipton, IN 46072.
