Nancy Shults Obituary

Nancy Gean (Litton) Shults, 82, of Tipton, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019. She was born on May 29, 1937 in Pennington Gap, VA to Carl Ely and Mary (Litton) Ely.

Nancy graduated from Tipton High School. Her passion for nursing, and strong work ethic, led her to continue on with her education, earning the trusted title of LPN from the Kokomo School of Practical Nursing. Nursing was much more than a job to Nancy, it’s the work she felt she was put on this earth to do. It was her special calling!  She worked for Tipton Hospital for 20 years and then finished her career working for Miller’s Merry Manor for 15 years. Nancy especially loved her elderly patients at Miller’s, and with the exceptional care she lovingly gave to each of them, they loved her right back! Even after becoming a resident at Miller’s herself, Nancy was an advocate for her fellow patient friends. All throughout Nancy’s life, she felt a responsibility to care for those around her. She always wanted to see the right thing be done, and this was especially true when it came to patient care.

Everyone who knew Nancy, would tell you she had a great personality! She was often called a firecracker, because of her feisty and fun spirit. You could often find Nancy laughing and cutting up. She had a great sense of humor! Nancy was a devout democrat, and was never shy about sharing her views. It was important to her to stay educated on current events. She loved watching shows like, MSNBC, CNN, and The View. Nancy also kept her mind sharp by working crossword puzzles and reading every chance she got. Nancy had a broad appreciation for music. She would decompress by listening to all genres, expanding from light rock to gospel. Nancy very much enjoyed listening to a variety of television pastors, as well as a variety of gospel bands, the Gaither’s being one of her favorites. Most would say they appreciated the fact that Nancy was a straight shooter. She said what she meant, and meant what she said! If Nancy was your friend, she was your friend for life. Nancy was equally dedicated to her family, and they each counted it an honor to have Nancy in their life to love. She will be greatly missed!

Those left to carry on Nancy’s legacy of love are her children, Sharon (Shorty) Smith of Fairmount, IN, Jeff (Linda) Shults of Tipton, IN, and Amy (Adam) Pearson of Windfall, IN; very close family friends, Tonia Smith of Windfall, IN and Kent Morrison of Windfall, IN; grandchildren, Ashly (Brad) McCracken, Andrew (Emily) Smith, Holly (Brian) Hartman, Dalton Shults, Kasey (Luke) Calvin, Kensey (Devin Marks) Morrison, and Sarah (Derek) Pearcy; great grandchildren, Eli & Silas McCracken, Taylor Smith, MaKyllee & Blake Hartman, Lilly & Jackson Tillery and Haydon Marks; lifelong friend, trusted confidant & helpful caretaker, “Aunt” Joan Turner; and ex-husband, Jack Shults. Nancy and Jack’s marriage may have come to an end, but their dedication for one another never did. They still remained close with one another’s family, this especially being true for nieces and nephews. Nancy and Jack had a strong friendship and bond and both sides of the family appreciate what an amazing caretaker Jack was for Nancy.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Ely and her brother, Harry Litton.
