Richard Ziegler Obituary

Richard F. Ziegler, age 90, of Tipton, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Riverview Health in Noblesville. Richard was born in Tipton, Indiana on November 24, 1930, to his parents, William & Julia (Beall) Ziegler. On February 2, 1982, Richard married the love of his life, Betena “Tena” Morris. They shared 39 years of marriage together and a lifetime of love. Tina survives him.

Richard was a Tipton High School graduate, class of 1950. Richard attended Butler University but left college to proudly serve his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953. After his military service he farmed for most of his life, even throughout his other occupations and entrepreneurships. He worked as a postmaster and was the Tipton County Sheriff from 1970-1978.

Richard was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Elks, and the Indiana Auctioneers Association. He was proud of his community and was the founder of several types of organizations within the community. He started the Independent Basketball League for adults, Circle Z Saddle Club, and the 4H Horse and Pony Club, Kantering Kids. He also refereed basketball for many years.

Richard had a love for animals and wanted to make certain they were well cared for. To help insure this, he served as the Indiana State Veterinary Office Inspector for several years.

He was an entrepreneur at heart owning and operating several businesses through the years including Zigs Pool Hall, Zigs Cafeteria, Zigs Western Store, and Circle Z Trailers. He owned an Auction house where he also served as an auctioneer.

It doesn’t take long to realize that Richard liked to be busy! His outgoing personality made his business ventures a success! He was a staple in the community and will be greatly missed by so many.

Those left to carry on Richard’s legacy of love are his wife, Tena Ziegler; his children, Lynette, Richard, Melanie, Michelle, and Tracy Ziegler; stepson, Rod Wittkamper; and his brother, Bill Ziegler.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, William & Julia Ziegler and five siblings.

Richard's wishes were that no services be held.
