Susan Garst Obituary

Susan Kay Garst (67) of Tipton, beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 2, 2020.  Susan was born on April 21, 1952, in Tipton to Donald and Phyllis (Swinford) Henderson.  Wedded on June 10, 1990, Susan was the cherished wife of Dennis Garst.  For nearly 30 years, they shared a life devoted to God and family.

Susan graduated in 1970 from Tipton High School.  Though her most treasured work was that of a mother, she enjoyed many years in various roles at Encompass Credit Union, retiring from her position in New Accounts.

Susan was a devoted and joyful member of East Union Church where her beautiful voice graced the choir and she enjoyed many enduring friendships.

Susan was a vibrant and charismatic woman who loved shopping and jewelry but, most importantly, her family, especially her grandchildren.  Susan laughed easily, was light of heart, and was loved by all who knew her.  She will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to call her family and friend.

The memory of Susan's life will be carried on through her husband Dennis Garst, her children Rebecca (Charles) Honaker, Jason (Katie) DeWitt, Michele (Steve) Dishoungh, and Bret (Kristine) Garst.

Susan will be missed by her dear sister Sharon Smith and by her many siblings-in-law: Sharon (Donnie) Jones, Larry DeWitt, Bryan (Krista) DeWitt, Donna Henderson, Kieth (Betty) Garst, Gerald (Jan) Garst, Wuanitta (Wayne) Phifer, Albert (Gene) Whissler, and Margaret (Glenn) White.

Susan's treasured grandchildren will always have memories of a Nana who was fun, generous, and loving.  She will truly be missed by James (Gretchen) Garst, David (Shelby) Teboe, Cheyenne Teboe, Dakota Garst, Shane Thomas, Avery Honaker, Sara Crawford, Madda DeWitt, Sawyer DeWitt, Eamon DeWitt, and Truman DeWitt, as well as great-grandchildren Karson Garst, Jason Teboe, and Ulani Swank.

Susan was welcomed into heaven by her parents Donald and Phyllis Henderson, her dear first husband, David DeWitt, her brother Mark Henderson, sister-in-law Dale DeWitt, and brothers-in-law Larry Smith and Charles Garst.

Please join family and friends on February 5, 2020, for a visitation from 11-1 and a service to celebrate Susan's life at 1.  The visitation and service officiated by Pastor Rex Dunning will be held at East Union Christian Church, located at 1711 E. 296th St, Atlanta, Indiana.  A private burial service will follow at Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Susan's honor to the Smith-Henderson Fund through Tipton County Foundation.

Susan's family would like to thank Physio Care Hospice for taking such wonderful care of her.
