Thomas David Blangy Yates, age 74, of Tipton passed away at 6:26 PM on Friday, June 30, 2023, at IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis.
He was born in Covington, Kentucky, on September 25, 1948, to Thomas Edward & Nell June (Blangy) Yates. His parents preceded him in death.
Dave attended Highland high school in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He later attended colleges in Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana including Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, Moraine Valley Community College, IUPUI, IUK, and Ball State. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserves serving six years.
Dave married Barbara Elizabeth (Groseclose) on October 17, 1970, and they shared 52 years of marriage together and raised three beautiful children together. She survives.
He worked for Penn Central, then consolidated Rail Corp., working in Cincinnati in the cherished field. He later accepted positions in the real estate departments in Chicago and Indianapolis and retired from the industrial development group as project manager.
Due to relocations, they relocated from Fort Thomas, Kentucky to Tinley Park, Illinois then Noblesville, Indiana and finally settled down in Tipton, Indiana. After leaving the railroad industry, he worked at Tipton County Memorial Hospital/IU health, and then the Kroger company.
Dave enjoyed working outside in the yard and gardening. He and Barb especially enjoyed going to watch whatever their grandkids were participating in. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed researching ancestry. In his free time he could often be found bird watching, golfing, or fishing.
His family legacy includes three children, Jennifer Yates of Peru, Laura Pope (Chris Myers) of Noblesville, and Jonathan (Amber) Yates of Tipton; sister, Judy (Ed) Teegarden of California, Kentucky, and brother, Paul (Debra Jean) Yates of Highland Center, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Devin Piel, Griffin Yates, Darian Myers, Brant Pope, Katherine Yates, Avery Myers, Logan Gatliff, Roland Yates, Madalyn Gatliff, and Emmett Yates; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by both his parents, Thomas Edward & Nell June Yates; brothers, Harry Joseph Tiemeyer, Steven Wayne Yates; sister Romaine Patricia South; nephew David Lee South II; niece, Terry Marie Hedger.
A Funeral service celebrating Dave‘s life will be on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 4:00 at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton with Father Goth officiating. Visitation for family and friends will take place prior to the service from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Military honors will start the service with the American Legion Post 46. Cremation will follow with burial at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
