Toneita Salsbery-Calvin Obituary

Toneita Mae Salsbery-Calvin, 89, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at The Waters of Tipton, surrounded by the love and legacy of her family. She was born on March 29, 1937, in Tipton, Indiana, to her parents, Steven W. Salsbery and Marjorie (Illges) Salsbery.

A proud graduate of Tipton High School, Class of 1955, Toneita carried her strong work ethic and determination into a lifelong career at Tipton Hospital. Working in medical records, she became known not only for her dedication but for her exceptional skill and reliability. One physician recognized her potential early on and asked her to join his team by keeping his medical records, a decision that would shape her career. Through her hard work and reputation for excellence, many doctors specifically requested her to oversee their records, a testament to the trust and respect she earned throughout her years of service. She retired in May of 1989.

Toneita was deeply rooted in her community and gave her time generously. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Eastern Star, Home Ec Club, and 4-H, and she also served on the board of Farm Bureau Inc. Her involvement reflected her love for people and her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives around her.

She was truly one of a kind; strong, capable, and never afraid to take charge when something needed done. Toneita had a presence that was both commanding and comforting. She was a devoted and loving mother, a guiding light to her family, and a steady source of strength. To her daughter, she was nothing short of a saint. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Outside of her many responsibilities, Toneita had a fun and spirited side. She was an avid shoe collector, always enjoying adding a new pair to her collection, a small but meaningful reflection of her vibrant personality.

Those left to carry on her legacy of love are her children, Mark (Terri) Calvin, Mick (Barb) Calvin, and Julianne Calvin; her grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Brumley, William Kemper, Coty (Brittani) Calvin, Amy (Shane) Mendenhall, Amanda (Tyler) Wilson, Eli Brotherton, Emmajae Brotherton, and Vincent (Brittney) Calvin; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews who will all carry forward her legacy of strength, love, and dedication.

Toneita was welcomed into Heaven by her parents; her brother, Stephen Salsbery; and her beloved daughter, Yolonda Kaye Kemper.

Toneita’s life was one of service, strength, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a family built on her foundation and a community better for having known her. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.
