Virginia “Ginny” Ann Cornwell of Jackson, MI passed away on September 15, 2021, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, MI with family by her side. Ginny was born on July 18, 1958 in Tipton, IN to Jim and Joan Ballard who preceded her in death. Ginny married David Cornwell on August 15, 1981, and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past August.
Ginny was preceded in death by parents and mother-in-law Janice Cornwell.
Ginny was a devoted pastor’s wife, loving mother, amazing grandmother, dear friend, sweet sister, and faithful servant of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Ginny and her husband have served the Lord in ministry for the Wesleyan Church for over 35 years. They have ministered in Tipton, IN, Greentown IN, Central, South Carolina, Dryden MI and Jackson, MI. Ginny and Dave have served in youth ministry and pastoral ministries. They also served in short-term missions in England and Colorado. Ginny and her family also spent several summers in South Dakota providing VBS to Native American Reservations. Ginny graduated from Marion College in 1980 now known as Indiana Wesleyan University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.
Ginny retired in 2020 from Spring Arbor University where she worked in the Business Dept. and loved her work and her coworkers. She also worked in property management at Reflections Senior Living in Jackson, retail Grocery at Marsh Supermarket in Indiana. She was also a substitute teacher in the Jackson Public School District.
Ginny’s greatest work was serving the Lord as a pastor’s wife and being a mom to Derek, a mother-in-law to Tiffany and Grandma to Evangeline Marie Cornwell. Ginny and David were deeply in love and have shared an amazing life together and was a good and faithful servant of Christ.
Ginny’s sweet spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed by her husband David, son Derek & Tiffany (Hammond) Cornwell, best granddaughter ever, Evie. Ginny is also survived by her brothers John and Jay Ballard, father-in-law Pastor Billy Cornwell, brother-in-law Darrin Cornwell and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends.
Even though, Ginny’s physical heart was ill her true heart was huge and she impacted this world in big and beautiful ways. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at HFAH in Jackson and Detroit for their care of Ginny.
Final arrangements are being planned with Hampton Funeral Homes of Jackson, MI. A visitation service will be held on Sunday, September 19 from 2-8pm at Hampton Funeral Home in Jackson. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 20 at 11am also at the Hampton Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Ned McGrady and Pastor Andy Merritt.
A visitation is also planned for Friday, September 24 from 2-8pm at the Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home in Tipton, IN. A graveside service will be held on September 25 at 11am at the Fairview Cemetery in Tipton, IN officiated by Pastor Ken Dykhoff. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at Trinity Wesleyan Church (3021 IN-28, Tipton).
