Walter Blain Crawford Jr., age 67, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Tipton, Indiana on May 9, 1956 to his parents, Walter Blain Crawford Sr. and Katheryn Janelle (Pickett) Crawford. Walter married Deanna Lynn (Townsend) Crawford (the love of his life), in 1984. The two enjoyed a total of 43 years together, and were beyond thankful for the life they built. Walter graduated from Tipton High School in the class of 1974. Shortly after, he began working for Hawkins & Sons Cable System; the first cable company in Tipton. Several years later Walter became a lineman for Tipton Municipal Utilites. He retired in 2020 after 32 years of employment.
Walter was a homebody. During his working years especially, he couldn’t wait to get home and unwind after talking with the public all day. He was loved by many and had an incredibly kind heart, yet was a true introvert and his home was his place of refuge. Walter loved his family with his whole heart, and was a very proud husband, father and grandfather. He had a joyful spirit and loved to laugh. He enjoyed reading, and listening to many different types of music; jazz probably his favorite. On a lazy afternoon you would have found Walter fishing or on a long Harley ride. More than anything, Walter will be remembered for his gentle ways, easy-going attitude, and dedication to those he loved. Walter will be missed beyond measure by all who had the privilege of knowing him!
Those left to carry on Walter’s legacy of love are his wife, Deanna Crawford; children, Tricia Oliver, Crystal Isley, Heather Wallen, Blain (Christina) Crawford, Darrin (Sandy) Townsend; grandchildren, Kylie, Katherine, Alex, Caleb, Hayley; brothers, Steve (Brenda) Crawford, Dennis Crawford; great granddaughter, Cameron; nieces & nephews, Carrie, Craig, Travis, Aron, Matthew; and beloved dogs, Chyna & Kiva.
Walter was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Walter & Janelle Crawford; and lifelong friend, Jeff Shrum.
A funeral service celebrating Walter’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. In Tipton with Pastor Gregg Townsend officiating. Visitation for family & friends will be held just prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
